Remote Sensing Training for Mining Regulation

Democratic Republic of the Congo

Context and issues

Civil servants in charge of regulating the mining sector in Central African countries are confronted to many challenges which are difficult to monitor pollution, illegal artisanal mining and frauds. Being capable of analyzing satellite images with a GIS software can help them with their surveillance and regulatory tasks.

Solution

Masae designed and facilitated in-person a hands-on training that included:

  • The use of QGIS and useful data for mining monitoring

  • Remote sensing and its application to environment / pollution monitoring in a mining context

  • Geology data analysis and processing in QGIS
