Context and Issues
An Ethiopian NGO in charge of producing regular reporting on social media discussions and a French government institution focused on foreign affairs needed support to improve their social media listening, processing and reporting skills. They also wanted to use Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) to complement their research.
Masae designed and facilitated trainings on social media research and OSINT, which included practical exercises and use cases adapted to the team’s capabilities and the local contexts. The trainings covered social media monitoring, investigation, fact checking, disinformation and foreign interference detection, as well as advanced web searches, the use of satellite images for verification, web security and a presentation of the most powerful open-source databases.
Participants were provided with a set of open-source tools to perform social media data collection and analysis by themselves.
